Reigning Silkolene Shorttrack UK champion Marco Belli continued his winning form aboard his factory CCM FT510 at the third round of the 2008 Silkolene Shorttrack UK Championship held at a wet South Tees Motorsport Park.
The Italian adapted well to the slippery conditions to take a maximum points haul and to move into a clear lead at the head of the overall standings, nine points ahead of his main rival Peter Boast.
The North-East facility welcomed a packed entry that included ex speedway star Rusty Hodgson, current oval protagonists Aide Collins and Adam Allott, plus BSB and TT hero Guy Martin. In worsening conditions it was Allott who gave Marco a lesson in riding out wide in the dirt, comprehensively beating the CCM rider in their semi-final encounter, and setting up a much anticipated rematch in the grand-final.
Belli was quick to turn the tables in the main event, taking a convincing victory, whilst Allott could only manage fourth spot, just ahead of Boast whose fifth position cost him valuable ground to Marco in the title race. In the Thunderbike division CCM’s Richard May came home in fifth spot on his mighty CCM FT710, and now holds fourth position in the championship table for the larger capacity bikes.
In the 2008 CCM Junior Shorttrack championship it was Ben Baker who recorded an historic victory, and brought to an end Tom Wooley’s incredible eighteen month unbeaten run. Tom Welbourn from Wisbech completed the podium for the youngsters, who did exceptionally well to cope in the treacherous conditions.
The next round will take place on Saturday 23rd August at Buxton Speedway Stadium, Buxton, Derbyshire.
