Reigning Silkolene Shorttrack UK champion Marco Belli was back at his best at the second round of this year’s national Shorttrack series, taking a comfortable win ahead of his arch rival and championship organiser Peter Boast.
. The 1/2 mile circuit at the Amman Valley, Carmarthen, South Wales was the prefect place for Belli and his factory CCM FT510 to prove its true pedigree, with the longer track really suiting the British made machine.
No less than thirty-six riders set out to claim one of the twelve places in the main event, as some fantastically warm weather provided a suitable backdrop for the 100mph plus action out on the dry and dusty circuit. Belli transferred to the Grand Final with an emphatic win in his semi to take his place on the front row of the grid alongside other semi victor Boast and two speedway stars in the form of Aide Collins and Adam Allott.
Boast took the initial advantage in the final, but soon passed by Belli on the back straight during the opening lap. The Suzuki mounted rider kept the Italian true for the next three laps, but had no answer to Belli’s awesome pace as the race wore on. Marco brought his FT510 over the line well ahead of the chasing pack, to record his and the bike’s first UK victory of 2008.
Tom Wooley continued his total domination of the CCM Junior Shorttrack Championship with another faultless performance to give the youngster from Burton On Trent his second clear win in as many rounds. The fight to fill the remaining two rostrum places between Joe Moore and Ben Baker produced some of the best racing of the meeting, with Moore just taking second spot after lap after lap of intense battling.
The next round will take place on Sunday 6th July at South Tees Motorsport Park, Redcar, Middlesborough.
