Buildbase CCM Racing enjoy better fortunes at Spanish GP
Monday, 18 May 2009
Buildbase CCM Racing rider Tom Church and Phoenix Tools CCM Racing teamster Jason Dougan both enjoyed better fortunes at today’s Spanish Grand Prix, which formed round six of the 2009 FIM World Motocross Championship.
In hot and dry conditions on a super slick Bellpuig circuit Church recorded two solid points scoring rides to finish up in the top fifteen for the GP. Dougan looked like matching his team-mate’s achievement, until he slipped off in race two, but despite this slight set back Jason still managed to remount and record a respectable second moto result.

Church placed fourteenth and seventeenth over the two legs to finish fourteenth overall. A crash in race two put Dougan down to twenty-third position, as he tried to match the fifteenth spot he achieved during the first moto. After the ill fortunes of the Portuguese Grand Prix just seven days earlier, it was important both for the riders and team to obtain some results from which they can then build on over the coming months.

“In race one I got a pretty good start and managed to stay out of trouble on the first lap despite several of the front runners having gone down so early on. By about the fourth lap I had worked my way up to seventh place, however I started to ride a bit tight as I knew I was going to be under pressure from the guys who had gone down, who were now on the charge. In the end I had some of the faster guys go by that left me fourteenth come he flag.” Church explained.

He continued. “Despite not making the best of starts, it was a similar story again in race two, with me managing to avoid crashing and somehow pull my way up the pack. Unfortunately I didn’t make the best tyre choice second time out, and this with the combination of having put so much into the first moto I felt really tired as the race wore on. All in all it has been a much better day all round, so hopefully we can now all build on this for the remaining races of the season.”

Dougan stated. “Race one was pretty straight-forward. I got out of the gate OK, but there was still work to do. It took me nearly half the race to move up into the top fifteen and once I was there I seemed to be able to hold the position quite comfortably. Race two was looking like it was going to be a similar story until I caught my foot on a rock. My whole leg got ripped over the bike, which ended up with me going down quite hard. I did manage to get going again, but the damage had been done. The hot weather made the races much tougher than usual.”

Buildbase CCM Racing’s female member Alix Dunlop once again acquitted herself very well on the World stage despite her tender age. The teenager narrowly missed out on scoring points in both races, as the Bellpuig track welcomed round three of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship. The team will now prepare for their home Grand Prix which will be staged at Mallory Park, near Leicester at the end of this month.
